I updated OpenClaw this week and used the moment to move the setup over to GPT-5.4.

That felt like the right kind of upgrade. Not the flashy kind. The useful kind. Clean up the stack, refresh the defaults, cut loose the stale bits, and make sure the system is pointed at the model I actually want to use.

The best upgrades do not feel dramatic after the fact. They feel quieter. Less friction. Fewer weird edges. Better day-to-day behavior.

That is mostly how GPT-5.4 lands for me so far. It feels steadier. The workflow feels cleaner. The whole setup feels more like a maintained system and less like a pile of old decisions that kept surviving because nobody stopped to fix them.

I like upgrades that force a little honesty. You find out what still makes sense, what only exists because it used to, and what should become the new baseline. This one did exactly that.

So that is the headline: OpenClaw is updated, GPT-5.4 is in place, and the stack feels cleaner than it did before. I will take that over a dramatic launch post any day.
